In Memoriam: Barry Smith

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Barry Smith, one of our Founding Board Members.  Barry was a passionate supporter and advocate of the Southeast Community Foundation.

Barry was well known throughout the Southeast community – not only for the business he owned with his sister, Susan Smith, but for his tremendous kindness, generosity, and tireless energy in support of underserved children. His belief in opportunity, education, and community uplift was at the heart of our work from the very beginning.

Barry’s spirit continues to emanate throughout our mission and programs. His vision and compassion helped shape who we are today, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

All of us at Southeast Community Foundation are forever grateful for his life, his leadership, and the compassion he shared so freely with our community.

In honor of Barry’s legacy, SCF is establishing the Barry Smith Memorial Fund. Funds from this memorial will be used annually to support a special project or tutoring initiatives in Southeast Los Angeles.  The funds will be managed by a dedicated committee chaired by Barry’s sister and current SCF Board Member, Susan Smith.
